Additional Information: Canoes regularly appear in Peter Doig’s work. They are typically related with Native tribes and are symbols of Canada, where Doig was brought up. The image of figures in a boat also evoke scenes of colonial invasion, a source of concern for Doig who moved to Trinidad from Scotland, as well as more mythological themes of death and passing.
