Literature: James Rosenquist : welcome to the water planet and House of fire, 1988-1989 Essay by Judith Goldman, 1989
Published by: Tyler Graphics Ltd., Mount Kisco, New York
Additional Information: Colored pressed paper pulp with lithographic collage on two sheets, 1989, signed in pencil, dated, titled and numbered 19/28 (total edition includes 12 artist’s proofs), from Welcome to the Water Planet, on TGL handmade paper, the collage elements on Rives BFK wove paper, with the blindstamp of the publisher, Tyler Graphics Ltd., Mount Kisco, New York, framed. The prints in this series were made using a mix of techniques, including sprayed paper pulp and collage. When he worked as a sign painter, Rosenquist’s job was to enlarge artwork for adverts to the size of billboards. This made him look at pictures differently: ‘I would take disparate images, put them together and try to make another sense out of them. It was almost like the idea of listening to radio and thinking about something in the abstract.’
