Additional Info: American artist Alex Katz is primarily known for his portraiture that synthesizes a kind of color field abstraction with realism; however, nature is a subject that the artist has depicted consistently since the early 1950s. Spring Flowers was created after the artist’s series of paintings that depict a range of flowers. The dynamic composition seen in the flowers’ slanted stems lends the impression of the flowers being blown in a wind, which complicates the sense of flatness that dominates Katz’s paintings and prints.
