Additional Info: In 2008, Swoon, and almost 70 collaborators piloted a series of handmade rafts, titled “The Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea”, down the Hudson River from Troy New York, docking in Long Island City.
The following year two of these boats navigated the Adriatic Sea, to arrive in Venice uninvited and unannounced during the Biennale of 2009. Part prank and spectacle, a part formal invitation into a state of wonder.
To fund this quest, in 2009 Swoon released a 2 color silkscreen edition, portraying “Alixa and Naima” who were the figureheads that sat atop one of the boats.
The edition quickly sold out, but a small stack of 6 artist proofs has recently been unearthed from the studio’s archive, hand-torn by the artist into a fresh format, and float mounted in custom museum-quality frames.
These are the last 6 that will be available from the studio of this print in any capacity, and the only 6 that will ever be made in this unique hand-embellished format. Each one is signed by the artist and considered an original.
