A’Driane Nieves is a USAF disabled veteran, multi-disciplinary abstract artist, activist, and speaker with a heart for serving others and social good. Nieves’ work explores the impact of the external world on identity and creates a visual language for the experiences, traumas, triumphs, healing, and identities of Black bodies from an internal perspective. The artist describes each of her pieces as a part of the body, psyche, and soul turned inside out; the intimate recesses, fault lines, eroded sediment, gravity wells, multitudes, and universes contained in bodies navigating a society that judges by what can be seen with the eye. In 2018, Nieves opened Tessera Arts Collective, an arts nonprofit serving women identifying & non-binary artists of color in the Greater Philadelphia area. She pushes womxn to transform the brokenness in their lives into power and beauty, and works to amplify the voices and experiences of those marked as Other in society. A’Driane lives and works in New Jersey.
